joven Estrella Tavera,
monja.

BASIC PLOT NOTES

King Sancho
arrives in Sevilla and sees Estrella; he thinks she’s hot and wants to get with
her.
-
Busto resists
King Sancho’s insinuations that he wants to get with Estrella, but is a bit
humbled when King Sancho keeps giving him royal favors. Busto agrees that king
Sancho can arrange Estrella’s marriage (a plot to be able to take advantage of
her before marrying her off), even though Estrella is already engaged to Sancho
Ortiz.
-
King Sancho’s
servant Arias bribes Estrella’s servant Natilde with money and freedom to allow
the king in to the Estrella’s house.
Jornada II
-
As the king goes
into Estrella’s house to rape her, Busto arrives home and finds him.
Confrontation.
-
King Sancho is
embarrassed and angered, and decides to have Busto killed. Decides that Sancho
Ortiz can do it. Sancho Ortiz agrees to the king’s task without knowing who he
will have to kill.
-
Sancho learns who
he must kill and kind of starts to go a bit crazy, then kills Busto, and is
arrested.
Jornada III
-
Sancho is in
prison and going crazy – believes he is in hell.
-
King doesn’t know
what to do with Sancho, who out of loyalty to king, will not say why he killed
Busto. Arias recommends that he should be exiled (rather than put to death).
-
King wants to
exile Sancho, but law officials disagree. King must confess the whole thing,
and Sancho is set free, but Estrella will no longer marry him.
